On the 30th of November 2016, the Pacesetters Youth Network (PYN) together with the following citizens and organizations, is pained to bring to your attention that Simbarashe Munakamwe, a serial murderer, stabbed Mai Love (his wife) 16 times. The gruesome incident happened on the 26th of November in Mhondoro-Mubaira under Chief Nyamweda.
Simbarashe is on bail pending trial for yet another case of stabbing his wife’s younger sister Chido Concordia Kurwakumire to death in February 2016. As we mark the 16 Days of Activism, we are horrified by these acts of violence against women and young girls. No one should be exposed to violence, either in the homes or in schools, public spaces should be free from all forms of violence. The State should take full responsibility for allowing such a man to roam freely in the villages and streets.
We are deeply saddened by the continued abuse and violence perpetrated against women and young girls and call on the government and its agencies to re-enforce concrete safeguards towards protection and eradication of violence. We are convinced that with the solid commitments to the fight against gender based violence and namely political and violence against women – our country will be safe for all. The law enforcement and the judiciary must take strong measures against all perpetrators of violence.
We wish Mai Love a quick recovery from the scourge of violence and call on all Zimbabweans to support survivors of violence.
