Are elections giving democracy a bad name?

The Kofi Annan Foundation is delighted to invite you to a panel discussion at the Auditorium Ivan Pictet, Maison de la Paix, in Geneva on Tuesday May 03, 2016.Even as the practice of holding elections has become almost universal since the end of the Cold War, there are indications that political liberties are actually in retreat. Instead of ensuring peaceful transitions of power, elections often become flashpoints, sometimes going so far as civil war. What is going wrong? What can and should be done?

To address this, the Kofi Annan Foundation, in 2013, launched the Electoral Integrity Initiative (EII). Four of its Panel of Senior Figures will debate the issue.

Should you be unable to attend, we invite you to follow deliberations via our livestream or on Twitter by following the hashtag #EII.
